Monday Bunday: Oma Rapeti

Starting this Friday at the Haus of Flox Showrooms at 13 Great North Road, Michel Tuffery, Flox and invited guest artists will be showing an Auckland version of the Oma Rapeti exhibition. “Oma rapeti” means “run rabbit” and any kiwi will fondly remember the song we sung as kids. The exhibition began at Pataka Gallery in Porirua and is traveling to various locations around New Zealand. More info here: https://www.facebook.com/N8VLaB and here: https://www.facebook.com/floxnz?fref=ts Here are a few pieces from the show.

Monday Bunday: Paintings by Joanne Ho

Some bunny and bunny friend paintings by Auckland artist Joanne Ho. Ok, full disclosure, Joey is my little sister. It’s possible that I’m a little bias, but I love my sister’s paintings. She doesn’t just paint bunnies, but here are some of the bunny highlights plus some non-bunnies at the end of this post. If you like what you see, you should buy her art! Ideal for children of all ages. The Koala and I have been elbow deep helping out for the annual Japanese Art Festival over the weekend. Some amazing pieces shown from Japanese artists and also a handful of kiwi artists. Parp or the farting rabbit is clearly a mythical beast because rabbits don’t fart. I am the proud owner of this painting now. Acrylic on wood. Some of these are still for sale so head over to her Facebook page or her blog for more info or to contact her directly. Here are some of my favourite non-bunny ones too…

RAW: AUT Grad Show

This week, 7 years ago, I had just completed an illustrated children’s book and had set up for the AUT Grad show for the Bachelor of Art and Design. It happened to be the same week as my 21st birthday and I was so busy with the exhibition that I flagged a formal 21st party. Instead, I opted for a spontaneous knees up at Rising Sun bar on K Road where The Koala worked. We lived on K Road back then so it was an easy choice. It was a good party, not that I remember, but for the next week, random strangers told me that they had met me my birthday and that I was really happy. Good to know. Well, this year’s AUT grads are on show and I’m going to visit tonight for the preview evening of RAW. I love going to grad shows. Something about the naive enthusiasm, the relief that it’s all over and the general buzz, is great to be around. It’s always inspiring and a little daunting to see …

Japanese Art Festival starts today

The Koala and I have been busy this last month with the lead up to the Japanese Art Festival. We’ve done all the graphic design for the festival, a 30+ page prospectus for one of the event sponsors and have been working on brand new paintings to exhibit. It has been a real work work work month. Well, the work has all paid off because the festival starts today. It’s free and it’s on from today until Sunday so if you’re in Auckland this weekend, come down to Aotea Centre and check it out. Saturday lunch-ish is the best time to go as there will be Taiko drumming and live art. There will be collection for Japanese earthquake relief and many artists will be donating full or percentage of sales. The Koala and I will be donating 50% of our sales to the Japanese earthquake relief. So please come! I leave you with a teaser from my pieces…
