Junk Food Day

This drawing was partially inspired by Tofu the bunny.

We don’t feed our rabbit chips, but this one time, he found a single nacho under the table. I heard him crunching, went to investigate and he was enjoying it so much (as in LOVING IT) I didn’t have the heart to take it from him. I mean, he found it fair and square.

I’m not huge on junk food, as I prefer cooked meals rather than packaged snacks. But once in a while, junk food gives me a little wink.

Some celebratory ideas:

  1. Have a junk food shared lunch or picnic
  2. Junk food quickfire challenge (cook/prepare something using junk food as ingredients)
  3. Invent a new junk food
  4. Junk up a healthy dish (bacon and potato chip salad)
  5. Make a home made version of junk food for dinner (burger, pizza, fried chicken, potato chips etc)

A Junk Food inspired menu

Starter (inspired by fried chicken and potato chips)
Waitoa free range, Karaage (Japanese style deep fried) chicken with potato chip crust, wasabi mayo and fresh daikon.

Main (inspired by burgers and Cheetos)
New Zealand Angus Pure beef burger with Mainland Superior Two Year Aged New Zealand Cheddar, pickles, rainbow coleslaw and beetroot relish. Served with parmesan polenta chips.

Dessert (inspired by pizza, chocolate, Oreo, Snickers, Coke)
A slice each of Oreo pizza and Snickers Banoffee pizza served with a scoop of cherry cola ice cream.

Oreo pizza: Oreo crumbs with fresh dark cherries and dark chocolate swirl.

Snickers Banoffee pizza: Caramel, banana and chocolate topped with whipped cream and chopped roasted peanuts.

Sounds great, but the fresh daikon sounds too healthy. Yesterday I learned (or at least read) how to deep fry it in fritters. Much more junky.

Teehee. You are absolutely right Sophie! I had deep fried chicken (Japanese style) for lunch today. Not a fresh daikon in sight.
