It’s been 2 years since I started this blog and in that time I’ve made a number of wonderful friends through this blog both in New Zealand and overseas. There’s nothing like shared interests to cement a friendship and I thank everyone who has commented on this blog in the past 2 years. This blog has given me the excuse to be more adventurous and try new things. I love sharing a little slice of my New Zealand kitchen with the world.
Sometime in the coming month, this blog will hit 100,000 visits and I’m celebrating with a new logo and giveaway. Some of you may remember my last giveaways when this blog reached 1,000 hits in October 2010 and then 10,000 hits in April 2011.
One lucky winner will receive three of my favourite New Zealand products and three sets of my designs.
In true NZ style, the producers all came to the party and have generously donated the following:

My favourite thing about New Zealand: the accents and the Kiwis I’ve met are pretty cool.
Also, congrats. Your blog is pretty awesome. I love the design of your food photos and always enjoy your posts.
Thank you rmk.
Congrats on a great 2 years of blogging 🙂 can’t wait to see the new logo! I love NZ bush, there is a small stand of bush behind my work and I find it very calming to look at.
Hi Jessica. I wish I had a bush view at my desk. That would be very calming. One day maybe I’ll have an office in the “woods”.
I saw this pop up on facebook this morning and immediately thought ‘Tofu’. He is my favourite thing about NZ. Apart from the fact that it’s where I got my beautiful sister in law from. I don’t know about you, but Tofu has a way of brightening up the shittiest of days. My little Flatpac had to stay at Mums last night because we have an inspection and I felt so so sad waking up this morning, talking to her as a reflex, only to find that she wasn’t destroying a couch or cardboard box. I LOVE your new banner. Your food styling is so good!.. I’m a little jealous……………….
Awww. Thanks for the kind words Cass. Bunnies make our lives brighter, even when they need special care and attention. I gave Tofu a bath last night. He was so good about it. I think he’s starting to look forward to baths. Dirty bunny!
I’m still so paranoid about the idea of it. She would hate it, and me for that matter! I would be given loud stomps.
I love your blog, mussel fritters and Christmas in the summer. These things are the bees knees.
I love mussels too. Thanks for your comment Melissa.
There are so many things I like about New Zealand! I think a lot of them relate to summer; sunshine, beaches, bush walks, jandals, the sound of cicadas, bbq’s, beer, bikinis, tui song. Some of these you can find in other places during summer but they aren’t as New Zealandy as here. The thing I like most about New Zealand is that it is home.
Laurel, you have me wanting summer now.
Congratulations on the milestone!
I’m trying to think of things I like about NZ, but my mind keeps swirling around Hobbits and Xena. I’m sure they don’t count though…
They count. Maybe you like the NZ film/TV industry?
Hahaha NZ film industry it is, then!
I love living in NZ. It’s comfortable, there’s so much space and not much people. Haha. No but really it’s quite laid back and you’re almost always close to nature. 😀 Congrats on 2 years!
Thanks for your reply Marnelli.
Many happy returns B-E-D! And wishing you lots more. The thing I like about NZ is also the thing that makes me groan sometimes, its smallness means that you can do things and talk to people who are likely to be inaccessible in larger countries. I like all the artisan producers who front up at markets, food shows, blogger meets and talk passionately about their products. Warm fuzzies.
You’re right, it’s great being able to meet the producers and those that are passionate about their business. It’s not the same as when you’re talking to someone at a checkout.
My favourite thing about NZ is the amazing scenery and places you can visit in the shortest amount of travelling time, no matter where you are in the country ^_^ I also love our unique lingo and kiwiana items which make us unique to the world.
I love those things about NZ too. I love how we can drive to many varied beaches around our city in less than an hour.
I could say my Dad, I could say you, but that would be a bit lame-o. I’m going to say Kapiti’s Apple Crumble Ice cream….. Oh, and the Waiheke wine festival.
You know, I’ve yet to go to the Waiheke Wine Festival. Is that shameful?
OMG! I can’t believe I almost missed this! What I like about NZ is you and your lovely blog!
Congratulations!
Thanks Eva!
I’ve never been to New Zealand was the happy recipient of a bit of Manuka Honey from a New Zealander who is my neighbor – I like that!
Great to see that our honey is making it’s way across the globe. The prize includes a little pot each of J.Friend’s Manuka, Pohutukawa and Kamahi Honey.
OOOOHHHHH!!! Hope I win! 🙂 I’d love to taste those other two. My husband has NZ on his bucket list of places to visit – it’s not in the near future however. 😦
The problem with bucket lists is that the bucket is bottomless!
Ha! We must be older than you – cuz ours is getting shorter…and that’s because some of the items are getting scratched off since they don’t seem as worthy as they may have in the past. That reminds me I need to edit mine! Happy Day!
Interesting. I bet a graph could be made in terms of bucket list length and age. Mine is growing exponentially. Too much zest!
my favorite thing about nz are the moody movies that are set here (
Our movies can be moody. We ain’t though 🙂
I love its natural beauty…(and Jaffas 🙂 )!!
Jaffas the chocolate right?
i enjoy so much about new zealand it is hard to pick oe thing, really the best thing is going a lovely beach with the family and being carefree
Thanks for your comment Carolyn, it’s been a while since I’ve seen an NZ beach. Bring on summer.
I love the birds of New Zealand best. 😀
I just love us ❤ my homeland & it's people
I love the natural beauty of New Zealand
Hi Liz, yep she’s a stunner!
already a liker of your page 🙂
My fav NZ thing other then my family has to be the areas of our country that are still natural and not over run or ruined by man, such as the lakes, forests, coves and caves 🙂 they are so beautiful when we (humans) don’t destroy them and instead enjoy them.
Hi Jessica, there are still some pockets of quiet, beautiful spots. I guess we are the guardians of these places.
Congrats on your 2nd anniversary of blogging – I love the beautiful National Parks that protect our beautiful native trees and plants.
Thanks Glenys, you remind me, I should visit a national park again soon. It’s been too long!
My favourite thing about NZ is where I live I can drive 10 mins out of the city and be in the country side, at the moment Im loving seeing all the lambs! Congratulations on 2 years 🙂
Thanks Erin. I love the spring lambs too. Especially when they’re leaping in the air, looking gangly and uncoordinated. So cute and ridiculous.
My fave thing about NZ is that I feel that it is the best place in the world to bring up children, I wouldnt want to anywhere else !(not that I really know any different hehe but still you know what I mean…)
Hi Mel, you’re right though. My parents moved here for the same reason.
My favourite thing about NZ is we have so many wonderful athletes which makes me proud to be a NZer
We do! For our tiny nation we have some real over achievers. Must be something in the milk 🙂
My fav thing bout NZ is summer time and beaches. Can’t beat lounging under pohutakawas with hot sand between your toes and an ice cream dripping on your togs. Bring on summer baby yeah! And kiwi food bloggers are pretty awesome too xox
I concur. Would love to sit under a hot summers day today.
My favorite thing about NZ is that it seems fairly unpolluted and a bit on the wild side.
lol. Wild is a cool word. Thanks for dropping by Diana.
Super-sparkly congrats!
Unfortunately I’ve never been there but on my list because of its breath-taking landscapes!!!
I love about NZ is the Lord of the rings movie 😀 -so that’s why I want to be there once and the adorable and weirdo kiwis!!
Thanks szappanbubi!
hi for me if would be the culture of new zealand and congrats on 2 years well done
Thanks Carolyn
I’m brand new to your blog but have always been intrigued by New Zealand – my husband’s grandfather has proclaimed that New Zealand is his ultimate favorite place in the world (and he is quite a traveler!) and we are planning a special trip to go there with him next spring 🙂 Life is short so stop just “thinking” about things to do. do them 🙂
Thanks for your comments Meredith. I whole heartedly agree about thinking vs doing.
