Auckland Seafood Festival is on this long weekend and I am way too excited. While I have firm favourite seafoods that I eat during the year (salmon, prawn, squid, mussels), at the festival I prefer to eat foods that I have less often.
I have a pretty adventurous palate, there’s nothing Auckland Seafood Festival could offer me that I wouldn’t try.
This year I’m looking forward to:
- Scampi
- Clams
- Whitebait
- Kina
- Octopus
- …plus anything I haven’t tried before.
My list might be a little ambitious, but I have The Koala and two friends coming along with me this year and they all know that I like to share 🙂
What seafoods do you always eat and are there seafoods you haven’t tried (but want to)?
Menu
If you’re anything like me, you might like to have a little read about what to expect. The menu for each vendor can be found here.
Oysters
Just a little note, as wonderful as oysters are, most varieties of oyster are not in season. Frozen thawed oysters can be lacklustre, so buyer beware.
(Thanks for the tip Easy Food Hacks.)
Cashless
This year Auckland Seafood Festival are introducing a card system like many other cashless events. You can get a full refund when you exit so don’t be afraid of putting on too much on your card. Expect to spend around $40 per person, $60 if you like a drink. Plus you can also buy products and food to take home. Most dishes are $5 – $15, although half crays start from around $40.
We’re expecting an amazing weekend so don’t forget:
- Ticket, money/EFTPOS
- Sunglasses
- Sunscreen
- A cool hat
- ID if you would like a drink
- Hand sanitiser (if you like to use your hands)
- Phone or camera for all that drool worthy food porn
- …and of course, a healthy appetite!
Tickets
Get your tickets at the Auckland Seafood Festival website here or buy tickets at the gate. For those that are going to Laneway on Monday, present your ASB Auckland Seafood Festival ticket to receive $30 off your Laneway door sale ticket!
Parking can be a nightmare so if possible, take public transport.
See you there!
I’m coming over for that one day… And I’ll eat the rest of your food while I’m there!! 🙂
Me too!! Me too!!!
Yeah let’s do it. We’ll eat it all 🙂
I will eat some ceviche and scallops on your behalf.
It’s the least you can do.. 😕
im so excited to go!
God I can’t wait till summer…when our seafood festivals bloom.
And the competitions…oyster-shucking, clam bakes, all you can eat chower…oh ma gaaaaahhhh
We don’t have many competitions, but this year, in conjunction with Auckland Seafood Festival, there is a fishing competition with a cool $1million to be won.
Scampi are my absolute fav!
Scampi are a sure thing 🙂 The hardest thing is to figure out which flavours you want your scampi cooked in.
Haha I agree! Although you can’t go wrong with garlic butter 🙂
