Summer in New Zealand is all about gorging on simply prepared seafood. This summer has been particularly seafood filled.
Here is a collection of five my favourite seafood recipes.

1. Steamed Garlic Prawns
Super easy recipe for Steamed Garlic Prawns, a very popular dish at Kingsland’s Canton Cafe. Includes a handy guide to prawn sizing in New Zealand.
2. Pan Fried Flounder
The most popular recipe on my blog by miles, this buttery golden pan fried flounder makes use of a whole flounder. You’ll need a flounder (or two) butter, more butter, flour, salt and pepper.
3. Raw Fish Salad
I fell in love with Ika Mata (raw fish salad) in Rarotonga. Here’s my version of it using fresh tuna fillets, though you can also use any firm white fish.
4. Oysters Kilpatrick
Oysters Kilpatrick are an easy crowd pleaser. Oystes, bacon, tasty sauce and cheese. What could go wrong?
5. All-in-one Seafood Stew
I test out Adie McClelland’s all-in-one seafood stew from her latest book Black Dog Cottage Cookbook.
What are your favourite seafood recipes?
I have to admit I’m not a seafood person at all, but I do enjoy salmon!!
I’m not really a seafood person either but that pan fried flounder looks pretty good! I like to eat salmon in my sushi and once has some exceptionally delicious oven cooked/marinated salmon. 🙂
Omg these all look amazing!! I’m not a huge seafood fan, but I LOVE snapper, mussells, scallops and prawns. And I love smoked fish! (We have a smokehouse and Dad’s recipe for smoked fish is my favourite) I’m one of those “if it smells too fishy I don’t want it” kinda seafood lovers though. Hahahaha.
That pan-fried flounder recipe looks so good, I’ve never tried flounder but I’m sure I would love it!
lol @ “I’m not a huge seafood fan, but I LOVE snapper, mussells, scallops and prawns.” I think you are officially a seafood fan.
Flounder is very delicate and quite sweet due to their diet. One of my favourite fish. Not fishy at all.
I love Ika Mata, my family makes it regularly and it’s one of my favourite ways to eat fish. Another of my fave seafoods is smoked mussels – what a treat!
I get marinaded mussels sometimes but never smoked mussels, that sounds divine.
Okay that pan fried Flounder looks amazing! … hmmm maybe I might have to have fish for tea tongiht!!!
And YUM raw fish.. I have always been to scared to attempt it at home but maybe its time to try!
As long as you buy fish from a reputable source, raw fish is great to do at home. Much cheaper than buying it pre-made too 🙂
OMG Genie!! I would devour the steamed garlic prawns and the seafood stew in a heart beat. Did you go to the seafood festival?
Hi Elise, I sure did go to the Seafood Festival. That shiz is my jams 🙂
I don’t think we can find fresh flounder here in Oregon but we eat a lot of salmon. Nicely written recipes and I plan to try.
Thanks Rose Marie. I love salmon. I get it whenever I can 🙂
