August is Auckland Restaurant Month and this year, Street Eats on the first Saturday of the month (Saturday 6 Aug 2016).
Huzzah! I love Street Eats which I view as a walking, build-your-own degustation. Browse, graze, have a drink, and enjoy the atmosphere.
There will be over 80 dishes, usually priced between $5 to $12, covering many different cuisines from restaurants, cafes and food trucks around Auckland. With games for kids, a bar for grown ups and live music for everyone, there will be plenty to keep you amused. Entry is $5 for adults and free for supervised kids. Gates open 10.30am and close 8pm, though I highly recommend an early visit as many of the best dishes sell out. Check out the menus here if you’re like me and like to have a browse before the event.
Here’s a few pics I’ve snapped of past Street Eats to get your appetite going…
There are lots of other foodie events on this month, with serious and novel themes. Events include Dinner in the Dark (sold out), Dessert Degustation Walking Tour (sold out), a free screening of Auckland cafe documentary Monterey, a taste of Momofuku Seiobo at The Grove, High Tea and Fashion at Hotel Debretts, and F&P Social Kitchen cooking demonstrations by some of the city’s best chefs and foodies. For more info on the Special Events, check out the link here.
This year, participating restaurants have conjured up Auckland Restaurant Month specials in three price brackets: $25, $40 and $55+. There are a lot of specials and I suggest you check them all out here in case there are places on your bucket list on there. Now is a great time to visit.
I’ve picked 3 from each price bracket, 2 of which even include wine. If I could only go to nine restaurants over the course of the coming month, these would be my picks…I’ve only been to one of these restaurants so I can’t exactly vouch for them, they’re just on my bucket list and I also like their Auckland Restaurant Month menus.

We are really lucky to be spoilt for choice in Auckland. There are too many to name so I’ll go with three places that I love to take those visiting Auckland.
The Sugar Club – to drink their cocktails and take in the view.
The Depot – amazing menu that showcases the freshness of our food
Milse – for our dessert fix 🙂
Orphans Kitchen, Odette’s and Woodpecker Hill
Chinoiserie, Coco’s Cantina and Ceremony (the three C’s!).
Hotel Debrett, Pilkingtons and Mezze Bar 🙂
My favorites are places where I can have great food I could never cook. Mamak Malaysian, Barilla dumplings and New flavor.
Narrowing it down to three isn’t a reasonable thing…. But here are three faves…
Ohhh that’s so hard! Miss Moonshines, Orphans Kitchen and Tanuki’s Cave 😍😍
