2020 Manifesto

2020 manifesto. Instead of having a New Year’s resolution, the past 8 years, I’ve been living by these lists of MORE and LESS. 2019 was an adventure. Being a freelancer has allowed me flexibility which I am truly grateful for. We spent a month in the Philippines where we learned to SCUBA with friends. We swam, snorkelled and dived with sea turtles. We island hopped and visited countless beaches and waterfalls. There, we celebrated 10 years of marriage. Both were found in different parts of Auckland and surrendered to the SPCA where they fell in love. Two very different personalities but super sweet in their own way. Kobe and Bento give us so much happiness. A worthwhile investment. View …

2019 Manifesto (and 2018 in review)

Happy New Year. It’s been a while since my last entry. 2018 was a good year. Last year’s motives were: More: Improvisation, uni-tasking, shared meals, vegetables, steps Less: Comparison, waste, hoarding, screen time, carelessness I have been really conscious about improvisation, hoarding, waste and carelessness this year. Taking time off social media when I feel myself comparing to others, taking up new hobbies to remove myself from my computer. I took my steps seriously, wearing my Fitbit 24/7. My goal was an ambitious 70,000 steps every week and I hit this 33 out of 52 weeks. This year I finally I got my restricted license. At age 35. Yep. I’m a late bloomer. This new-found freedom meant that I drove more and walked less. We bought a Mazda Axela a few months ago and it’s super fun to drive. I’ve now been freelancing for over 2 years and I love being my own boss. My main income is through graphic design though this year my photography/styling work has surpassed my blogging. I had over 80 …

2018 manifesto

Christmas has been super chill. The weather was stunning, I glazed a ham, The Koala and I went to my sister and fiancé’s house, we played with their pup, we walked to the beach, we had our first swim of the summer, we ate. We have plenty of leftover ham (just as I hoped) and this afternoon The Koala and I will have our first barbecue of the summer. We didn’t manage a single barbecue last summer so we’re already doing OK. Each year, I write a list of 5 things I intend to embrace and 5 things I hope to surrender for the year. Today I look back at my manifesto for 2017, my motives were: More: Patience, courage, collaboration, generosity, grit Less: Haste, doubt, worry, gluttony, mess I loved this list. I’m not quite ready to let them go. Patience, grit and courage are three things I find myself summoning regularly. Take a breath. Conjure patience. I dislike impatient people so I wanted to be more patient. I’m getting there. Doubt and worry are often …

2017 Manifesto

2016 was a game changer. If we are forever rushing along the deluge of life, then 2016 was when I jumped from the safety of the raft to try synchronised swimming. It was scary but it looked cool. This year I grew up a lot and at the risk of sounding like another thirty-something year old woman who has found herself…I’m another thirty-something year old woman who has found herself. I know who I am and feel solid in my shoes. In this life that I have carved out for myself. And it’s been amazing. I am living the dream. Courage In March 2016, not so long after writing last year’s manifesto (or resolutions if you prefer) and after a lot of reflecting, I handed in my notice at my graphic design job of over 10 years to go full time freelance. Now I am a graphic designer, a blogger, a food stylist, a photographer and an illustrator…whenever and whatever the job requires. I’m a multi-faceted creature with many curiosities, talents and passions. As many of us …
