Tofu Tuesday: Post Splore boots
The Koala and I are back from an epic 3 days at Splore. There was mud, rain and sunshine. I think we’ll take a few days to reset. Click here to see more editions of Tofu Tuesday.

These adorable beaded vegetables are a gift from my friend Vanessa all the way from Guatemala. Tofu especially approves of the carrot. Vanessa has spent a year volunteering full time in an orphanage in Guatemala and is now wrangling huge spiders and headed to Nicaragua via El Salvador. Vanessa is a rock star. Welcome back to Tofu Tuesday! Tofu spent Christmas and New Years at my parents’ house so we had a little hiatus. I got a huge mug for Christmas. Every day I fill it with coffee and plan to take over the world. It’s going to be a great year. Click here to see more editions of Tofu Tuesday.
Hope your holidays are everything you hoped they would be. Click here to see more editions of Tofu Tuesday.
We have a new office set-up at home. Instead of one big table, The Koala and I now have a desk each and I love my set-up. Seriously, I get up early each morning so I can sit at my new workspace. It’s the little things. P.S. How many bunnies can you see? Click here to see more editions of Tofu Tuesday.
Are you looking for a wonderful Christmas gift that is 100% designed and made in New Zealand? Local antipodean store, Pauanesia has released their 2017 calendar titled “Aotearama”. Featuring 12 New Zealand coastal scenes painted by my super talented sister, Joanne Ho. I’m so proud of you sis! My favourite is Karekare Pit Stop, modelled here by Tofu the bunny. My friends and I spent Easter this year at Karekare making great memories and falling up with the wild landscape there. There are many other scenes that will stir up feel-good nostalgic memories and make you want to take a kiwi road trip ASAP. Just in time for summer. $2 from each calendar sold will be donated to Sustainable Coastlines. Calendars are $24.90 each and available online here or at Pauanesia, 35 High Street, Auckland CBD. More info on Joanne Ho A.K.A. Help Birdie can be found on her portfolio site here or on their Facebook page here. Click here to see more editions of Tofu Tuesday.
We had the pleasure of trying some of Serious Popcorn’s newest flavour: Coconut and Vanilla. With a light flavour a hint of salt and not too sweet, this is great guilt-free snacking. Co-founder of Stolen Rum (see previous Tofu Tuesday: Stolen edition here), Roger Holmes now peddles organic popcorn in three flavours and cutesy packaging. Serious Popcorn are serious about being organic, non GMO, dairy and gluten free and all ingredients 100% traceable from farm to bag. No rabbits were involved in the serious task of snack tasting. We’re getting our roof replaced so during the day, we’re keeping Tofu inside so he’s out of the way of building hazards. After the workday though, when everyone has gone home, Tofu enjoys a snooze in the back yard. I’m pretty sure Tofu the bunny does not consider himself a prey animal, but a master of his domain. Our good friend Si from Cracked Ink delivered this skull recently. I love buying art and even more so when it’s art by people we love! Check out his website here and his Instagram here if you like this whimsical brand of character art. Tofu investigates. Click here to see more editions of Tofu Tuesday.
We couldn’t leave Waiheke without a souvenir, especially as Waiheke is home of swoon-worthy Thea Ceramics. The Koala got me this an early birthday present. Rabbit approved. Click here to see more editions of Tofu Tuesday.
Whilst researching animals in hats for Tofu Tuesday this week, I decided to go for perhaps the most iconic hat wearing furry of all time. Please note, this piece is intended as shits and giggles satire only. The Cat In The Hat by Dr. Seuss is a copyright entity. Click here to see more editions of Tofu Tuesday.
Last Friday I went along to the Food Writers New Zealand Conference at Villa Maria with fellow food bloggers Ari from Ari Eats and Rhi from In Rhi’s Pantry. The goodie bags were AMAZING. I have to admit, we’ve already eaten almost half the goods so Tofu the bunny models just a portion of the goodie bag goodies for you today. There were a couple of other food bloggers there, and of course, food writers, chefs, and others in the food production, education and community sectors. The keynote speaker was Jonathan Bloom, journalist, consultant, writer and blogger over at WastedFood.com talking about wasted food. As a food blogger – and I’m sure I am not alone in this – I’m often gifted food that I wouldn’t normally purchase and the majority of gifted food doesn’t end up on this blog. If I’m not going to eat it myself, I always do my best to find that food a new home. I know the diets and preferences of friends and family and I’ve yet to come …
Sometimes Tofu the bunny sits with his furry paws tucked underneath and with his extra bit of skirting around the back, he looks like a hoverbun. Thanks to The Koala for this idea. Disclaimer: Image may have been retouched in Photoshop. Hoverbuns aside, Tofu had us worried last week when his floppy ears swelled up to 2-3 times their regular thickness. I often overreact as a bunny owner, but rabbit health can take a quick dive so when you notice new symptoms, it’s important to act quickly. Took him to the vet who ran a bunch of tests. The swelling was already subsiding by then and they couldn’t find the cause. Could have just been a reaction to an insect bite. Other than the huge ears, Tofu was acting (eating and drinking) normally which was comforting. We’re super glad that Tofu’s geriatric tests came back pretty much all clear. He has some lumps in his belly as usually but they weren’t concerned as he’s just a lumpy bunny. Usually he has bladder sludge issues but since I’ve been …
Farrah’s have launched their new Mexican range which includes spice mixes and a chilli tortilla (not pictured, was too yummy). I really like their taco mix which the perfect level of heat for me. Tofu doesn’t get to enjoy the food products but he loves playing with his new maracas. *Shaka shaka shaka* Click here to see more editions of Tofu Tuesday.
We had a lot of rain on Sunday. It was quite muggy so I opened the front door to let in some fresh air and the sound of the rain. Tofu the bunny is blind and I like to think that he appreciates sounds more as a result. It’s local election time and reading through this year’s candidate booklet, I’m reminded why I have never voted in local elections. I can’t summon any enthusiasm for the candidates. Voting is important and I have voted in every general election since I turned 18, but local elections…? Not once. The voting booklet is peppered with a huge variety of candidates from serious runners to society’s extremists. The terrible writing makes me wonder if the whole thing is a joke or just a soapbox for crazies to mount every few years. Tell me who to vote for. Please. Bunny catching the last of the sun on a beautiful day. I love it when his many whiskers catch the light. It’s almost like he is posing for the camera. Click here to see more editions of Tofu Tuesday.
Tofu didn’t get to go to Pinot Palooza in the weekend, but he is definitely VIP at our house. Click here to see more editions of Tofu Tuesday.
