Bunny Eats Design turns 5!

5 years ago, I started this blog.

It sounds like a long time. But then when I remember that I’ve living in the same house for 6 years, at the same job for 10 years, with The Koala for 13 years, living Auckland for 22 years…5 years doesn’t sound so long.

The journey

5 years ago, I had just started to enjoy experimenting in the kitchen and was taking terrible photos of my food. If you dig around, you’ll find my first blog posts. I can laugh about it. My curiosity to try new things and persistence kept this blog going.

Since last year, I upgraded my DSLR, I joined brunchclub, I met lots of lovely bloggers, I’ve eaten with lots of food bloggers, I made a media kit (to get more serious and focused), I created a photography portfolio, I started using Instagram, I attended food photography workshops, I took on photography jobs. I started getting invited to food events as media (OMG whut!?), I ate out, I ate out a lot, I’m still here.

Courage to investigate and experiment

I’m super grateful for the food adventures this blog as allowed me to experience.

This year I’ve expanded this blog outside of just one foodie’s opinion by featuring foodies, chefs and restaurant owners in my Tasty Questions series. I’ve loved being nosey and seeing what other passionate foodies are eating, cooking and thinking about.

Where we’re headed

I have done a couple of sponsored posts. I would love to break even on this blog but 99.9% of my blog posts are not sponsored. I learned to stop repeating that my posts are NOT sponsored. But I will tell you if and when they are and I would never recommend something I didn’t like. I’ve marvelled at the local businesses around me who stand proudly by their ethics and beliefs.

Thank you

As a big thank you (and because it’s not a real birthday without presents), I have some giveaways lined up of things that I love and I think that you will love too.

Watch this space!

I am Genie, a graphic designer/photographer obsessed with food and bunnies. I live in Whanganui, New Zealand with my husband, The Koala and our two rabbits, Kobe and Bento. I write about my hedonistic ways and I love the mantra "Eat well, travel often". I prefer not to write about myself in third person.

  1. Yay, happy blog anniversary! I’ve enjoyed the various series that you have done (and still doing). And you’re the most engaged and helpful blogger I know. Wishing you big things for the next year!

  2. Indeed cookie face (or is that me?), you made it for 5 whole years.
Congratulations are more than in order but so is respect.
Mad respect to you, because besides making it through 5 years, you’ve managed to bring up other bloggers like myself along the way.
You never forgot about us little people and you’ve ALWAYS been there – commenting, encouraging, motivating, pushing….
You’re hot shit babe and I’m grateful to know you,

  3. As I read your post, I couldn’t help but think that your blog and mine are about the same age – and yes the older “food photography” can be kinda funny. But it’s awesome to take a moment to recognize how much you’ve done and just sticking with something that’s enjoyable!

    Congrats on 5!

  4. My blog is 5 too – we must have started at roughly the same time. Congrats on how far you’ve come and thanks for all the encouragement!

I love your comments! Your comments are like extra melted cheese on top.
