Monday Bunday: Bunny egg cozies
Eggs at my house don’t have a chance to get very cold – unless they’re boineg cooled on purpse for a salad. But these felt egg cozies are still very cute.

Taiwanese designer Hsia-Ying Lin has worked together with craft artisan Jun-Ching Tang on ‘Moon Rabbit’ cup and plate. Made from black clay, these tableware pieces interpret the famous chinese fairytale of the rabbit on the moon, commemorated every autumn in taiwan during the moon festival celebrations. Lin and Tang have designed a cup in which the rabbit sips the water within along the lip of the vessel; and a plate where a rabbit is found sitting on its edge, its stretched ‘reflection’ becoming the dish itself. A collection of Moon Rabbit cups and plates. This collection has a sombre, serious tone. They’re fun, but not in a “let’s hold hands and frolic in the sunshine” kind of way. It must be the black clay. There is something very grown up about black clay.
Alphabunnies by Airside. Check out these sexy bunny chicks forming the alphabet. Pretty random but pretty cool.
The Giant of Vlaardingen 2002 – 2003 8 x 10,5 x 5,5 meters Salvaged wood, nails and screws “It took three months to build to a sculpture out of salvaged wood, with the assistance of local people. The sculpture is an assemblage, and although the quality of the wood was poor, it stood on three locations!”

How’s this adorable cake? My sister Joey baked and decorated this me for my birthday last year. You can’t see from this photo, but the bunny had pink marshmallow cheeks. Squeee! I felt very spoilt indeed! Joey inherited the baking gene in our family. Ok, so it’s not strictly a bunny and design entry this week but eats included too!

I first stumbled across Kozyndan’s work in 2007 and was mesmerised. Was there really another asian girl/white boy duo out there making bunny art? Really?! When I found out they were having an exhibition right here in Auckland a few weeks later, I was ecstatic! Their opening night at Webb’s gallery was packed. Nice to see digital art getting a foot in the door at more a traditional auction house like Webb’s. They have just released Uprisings – a rotocast vinly sculpture that can be a bookend or a stand alone sculpture. Based on their bunnyfied version of Hokusai’s famous print “The Great Wave Off Kanagawa”. At only $75, it’s well priced for a fabulous modern piece of bunny art. Here are more of Kozyndan’s bunny influenced pieces.

Welcome to the first Monday Bunday! Monday Bunday will look at the special combination of Bunnies and Design. This is Rabbit-kun (translates to Dear Mr. Rabbit), a sweet plastic bag with eyes, an X-shaped mouth, and a pair of bunny ears that double as handles. Brought to you by by Tokyo-based creative group MAQ Inc. Rabbit-kun aims to inspire a more responsible attitude toward waste by providing a cute and stylish way for people to carry their trash home after a day outdoors. Whether it’s a picnic in the park, a hike in the mountains, or a day at the beach — or any place without public trash cans — Rabbit-kun is charming enough that you might actually enjoy carting your garbage all the way home.
