Happy National Potato Day! 19 August is National Potato Day and while “national” refers to USA, the internet makes the world such a small place. Potatoes are tasty, versatile and good for you. Not a week goes by that I don’t eat a potato and today’s Monday Bunday features a potato shaped rabbit who goes by the name Molang. Think of it as Korea’s answer to Sanrio’s Hello Kitty, My Melody and Little Twin Stars…only better. Molang is a small and lovable animal. He’s very curious and a big dreamer. Molang loves to have fun and to give kisses. But what he loves most is to eat strawberries. As soon as Molang catches a whiff of this fruit, its cheeks turn a little pinker and its eyes shine a little brighter. Molang loves strawberries but it also likes to eat everything else. He particularly loves traveling everywhere/around the world to discover new flavours and tastes. Then, Molang likes to share all his lucky finds with his friends. Hmmmm…I love strawberries, eating and travel. Oh my gawd. I …
Just a hat and an ear is all it takes. While so many brands in the wedding industry overly floofy (yes, that’s a word) it’s nice to see a design so restrained but still very stylish. White Rabbit Wedding is an App created for photographers and their wedding clients to map out a shooting schedule. The logo by letterpress and design studio Two Paper Dolls is perfectly whimsical with a nod to vintage letterpress style. Check out this logo and the app icons as well as more work from the Two Paper Dolls portfolio site.
My search for bunny logos and branding never ends. But if it did, it might end at Hello Tomato’s identity design for Run Rabbit. Hello Tomato is Sasha Heath, an illustrator based in Melbourne, Australia. Hello Tomato has also done work for last week’s Monday Bunday The Woodsfolk. You can view more Hello Tomato goodies here: http://www.hellotomato.com.au Love bunny things? Check out more editions of Monday Bunday here. P.S Please check out her doodle/tatto style rabbit lamp and rabbit light. They are really, very cool. Looks like a fun project to get my own mitts on.
The Woodsfolk is a homeware store in Melbourne, Australia and I’m in head over heels in love with their whimsical branding by US based Stitch Design Co. If you like the current trend of vintage/hipster styler design, Stitch Design Co. really embodies this aesthetic. I love how they’ve just gone with black and white. I would be super tempted to do this in full colour but the monocrhomatic logo It gives it a more adult, chic feel where colour would have appealed more to children. Also, their shop is bursting with colourful items so the white washed walls and monochrome branding really works. A rare geeky treat, Stitch Design Co also posted their logo process concepts here. Designers don’t usually show the world all the process concepts but it’s always great to see what other ideas were explored and rejected. If Hawthorn, Melbourne is in your hood, check out The Woodsfolk’s brick and mortar shop at 39 Church Street. They are open 7 days! Going by what I’ve seen online, it’s a treasure trove of beautifully …
Tequila and I have a mutual respect. Really good tequila, the stuff that is classier than me, has my respect. The trashy stuff that needs a wince and a chaser, I can do without. The tattooed rabbits on these bottles of tequila from Suerte were designed by tattoo artist Adam Jackson. Suerte means “luck” in Spanish and what is luckier that a tattooed rabbit? Visit Adamamnts.wordpress.com for more Adam’s goodies. Design company Swig Studio are responsible for this beauty. See more of their work here: http://www.swigstudio.com Love bunny things? A jackalope is a mythical creature, not to be confused with this or this creature. As a fan of bunny things, naturally, jackalope things also make me squeal. Jackalope Glacier Blue Wall Hook and Jackalope Glacier Blue Jewelry Holder by imm Living and available at Pure Home. Both wonderful but I’m loving the wall hook a little more due to the necklace factor and it wouldn’t take up any space on my dresser. I do have a bunny wall hook gifted to me by my sister but I have no place to put my rings. Yes, my rings can be found in a myriad of random places. If only I had a jackalope to guard my jewels. Happy Monday and happy first of July! Can’t believe we’re over halfway through 2013. The second half of the year typically flies by. I’ve already had clients talk to me about Christmas card design. Kind of disconcerting but super grateful for organised clients. Shameless plug: If you or someone you know is looking for a designer for Christmas cards or anything really, contact me. Anyway, here’s a cool video to cheer up your Monday. Love these humping bunnies from this smooth animation by Leslie Murard. Warning: Contains sexual themes and cooked rabbits. Love bunny things? Completely predictable in winter, my number one tipple in cold weather is a glass of red. We usually buy screw tops for convenience, but this wine stopper would see some use in our house. “Good fortune is in your design future. Crafted from resin, this whimsical wine stopper is inspired by the Chinese zodiac with a rabbit head on top. Gift to a vino-loving friend, or use to store an open bottle in chic style. Available in black or plum Cork bottom with resin top Made in Canada Ships in 1-2 weeks” Grab one for yourself for $13 at Pure Home. Love bunny things? Check out more editions of Monday Bunday here.

It is officially winter here in New Zealand and what better way to mark the occasion than with a collection of bunny sweaters. Not bunnies in sweaters, that would be these: I mean bunnies on sweaters a.k.a. jumpers with bunnies on them. Here are a collection of stylish jumpers with bunnies on them. I think the wearable, monochrome hues help a lot. I would incorporate all of these into my current wardrobe. They don’t scream Crazy Bunny Lady do they? Click on the images to be transported elsewhere.
A collection of 20 of my favourite children’s books with bunny illustrations. Glorious. Bonus for zombie fans: Pat The Zombie.
I’m loving these watercolour illustrations by Etsy seller Blue Dog Rose. Whimsy and rabbits rolled into one. You can also visit her blog for current pieces. I like to imagine that this is the sorts of stuff Tofu gets up to during the day while we are at work.
Prince Harry in the US last week wearing a bunny tie. World domination is near completion.
As a graphic designer I have designed a few restaurant logos and I am always hoping to design more. I am still looking for that elusive bunny foodie client. Until then, here are some of my favourite bunny restaurant logos from around the world. Clicking on images will lead to the source. In no particular order…
Everywhere I turn these days, I see bunny themed stuff hidden amongst *regular* stuff. I recently stumbled upon Old Gold Boutique, an online store specialising in gold hued jewelry. They have quite a range of bunny related jewelry. You can find all these and other interesting pieces over at their website http://www.oldgoldboutique.com. And one more delightfully hilarious foodie necklace that I had to share with you: A rotisserie ring.
Like many of you, I spend most of my day at a desk. I think personal touches around your desk are a fact of life. I have a bunny at one desk and a couple of bunnies at my other desk. I have a messy looking pile of paper and a handful of other useful and semi-useful trinkets. I have the cool calendar that The Koala and I designed and it’s filled with the busy scribbles of my life. I never understood companies that prohibit people from personalising their workspace. Desks that are devoid of personality make me suspect that a serial killer resides. Whenever I have to sit another person’s desk, I enjoy seeing pieces of their character in there. You can tell a lot about a person from the thokcha at their desk. If there is nothing, I get that eerie feeling that they have something to hide or have no passions or interests. Like homes that have no personal effects and feel like motels or hotels. Creepy. My rabbit themed office is far …
Since we got a new (secondhand) oven, I’ve spent a little bit of time getting to know it. It doesn’t have a built in timer and I also suspect that the thermostat is either out or the oven behaves differently to our previous oven. 1. Apple kitchen timer £3.99 from FenTrader. 2. Bengt Ek Design Rabbit Kitchen Timer £11.99 from Legend Cookshops. 3. Carrot kitchen timer $8 from Seattle Seed Co. 4. Pink dotty egg timer £5.75 from Omlet. 5. Bunny timer for custom print from $4.83 each from Identity Links. 6. Digital rabbit timer $20 for a 12 pack (wholesale) at Daiso Japan. I ended up getting an apple shaped kitchen timer. I couldn’t resist how it would look in our fruit bowl, although the pink polk dot egg would look very sweet nestled in a basket of real eggs.
Some bunny and bunny friend paintings by Auckland artist Joanne Ho. Ok, full disclosure, Joey is my little sister. It’s possible that I’m a little bias, but I love my sister’s paintings. She doesn’t just paint bunnies, but here are some of the bunny highlights plus some non-bunnies at the end of this post. If you like what you see, you should buy her art! Ideal for children of all ages. The Koala and I have been elbow deep helping out for the annual Japanese Art Festival over the weekend. Some amazing pieces shown from Japanese artists and also a handful of kiwi artists. Parp or the farting rabbit is clearly a mythical beast because rabbits don’t fart. I am the proud owner of this painting now. Acrylic on wood. Some of these are still for sale so head over to her Facebook page or her blog for more info or to contact her directly. Here are some of my favourite non-bunny ones too…
