Monday Bunday: Bunny Wine
I’m loving this design for 2009 R. Müller Riesling by Octavin. Also known as “bunny wine” and produced from grapes grown in the Landwein Rhine region of Germany and is a sweet reisling.

Max is our fluffy and timid neighbour who spends most of his time indoors. Last weekend, he ventured out into our shared backyard and even let me close enough to pet him.
A collection of vintage crate labels from Pinterest. I can’t imagine that Tofu the bunny would be any good at farming carrots or apples, though he is very good at working the land.
Live update! Just been to the vet clinic and Tofu has been giving the all clear. His corneal ulcer is completely healed and he can come off antibiotics. Moral of the story, corneal ulcers in rabbits can heal. As long as you get the vet quick enough and are super diligent with antibiotics (4 times a day). Now that Tofu has had 2 corneal ulcers, one in each eye, we’ve had 2 possible outcomes: removal of the severely infected left eye, and complete recovery of the right eye. I know which one I prefer! When we got home, Tofu was treated to a grape and is now enjoying the outdoors. Enjoy this post? Click here to see more editions of Tofu Tuesday.
Auckland has been experiencing power outages all over the city. Yesterday at work, the power went out in the afternoon so I skipped off home. It’s lovely to be home when I’m supposed to be working, though I still managed to get plenty of work done from home. In the late afternoon, a glorious slice of sunshine passes over our bed. Here is a photo of Tofu enjoying that slice of sunshine while grooming himself. Click here to see more editions of Tofu Tuesday. p.s. Tofu’s eye infection is clearing up with use of antibiotics and we’re off to the vet again this morning to check that it’s completely healed. Thanks for all your thoughts this week!
Three Beans is an Auckland coffee roaster now based at City Works Depot and the branding for their Gangster Rabbit blend caught my eye. I’m not sure if this little dude is me before or after a coffee. Probably after. Order from their website here.
I wish Tofu wore safety goggles. I took Tofu to the vet yesterday because he has another eye infection. Last time he had an eye infection, it got really bad, really fast and he had to get the eye removed. It was heartbreaking, but the best thing for him. Because Tofu is blind, he brushes up against or bumps into things all the time. This time something scratched his cornea. They flushed and checked out the eye but there was no foreign object in there and the vet seems hopeful it will heal. Please keep Tofu in your thoughts today. The age of the rabbit has come. ‘nuff said.

Choices US artist Jermaine Rogers has just released a new vinyl figure of a knife-weilding rabbit titled “Choices”. “This 8 inch vinyl figure strikes an alert pose, wide-eyed and aware. Our little bunny must make an important choice…and he holds the instrument to carry out his decision. What bunny’s choice is and what the implications of his decision will be is for you to decide. ‘Choices’ (regular edition) figure is limited to 500 pieces worldwide.” The Koala and I have quite a collection of rabbit shaped vinyl toys already, but I want this one so bad!
Just some doodles. Tofu the King of the Woodlands, a raven, a squirrel and toadstools. Click here to see more editions of Tofu Tuesday.. This drawing inspired by this.
I know some of you have been missing Tofu Tuesdays. Last month was the longest time Tofu Tuesday had gone on hiatus in the 4 years this blog has been going. I hope this photo and doodle makes up for it. I had fun making it. I may have laughed maniacally as it all came together. It is now over 2 months since Tofu’s surgery. He has been getting along just fine without his left eye and his fur has now grown back completely. He is as handsome as ever and twice as mischievous. The nostalgia of the road-side inn with pub and rooms upstairs has come a long, long way. The Wild Rabbit in Kingham, Oxfordshire, UK doesn’t conjure up tired, old rooms where pungent travellers rest their weary heads (after drinking and eating too much in the pub downstairs). Far from it. Built in 1950, The Wild Rabbit was renovated last year to a high standard. With a very nice restaurant and traditional village pub attached, guest are welcome to stay in one of their 12 very comfortable rooms. Their rooms have sweet names such as the Hare, Otter and Mouse rooms.
The bunny mid-chew shows off his nostrils. That is all. Click here to see more editions of Tofu Tuesday.
Badger beers had a brand-wide redesign by starting with their Hopping Hare beer. The result is fresh while still being very English countryside. The typography is very playful with strong illustrated elements. This redesign was done by UK advertising agency Brand Opus. Tofu has been sleeping on our bed lately. He comes into our room sometime between midnight and dawn, long after we’ve gone to bed. I guess that is when the temperature drops. He sleeps on top of our blankets, snuggled between our feet. In the morning, he can be found perfectly positioned on that patch of blanket directly on top of a hot water bottle, enjoying the residual heat through 2 layers of blanket. He dozes there for hours while I get up, work out, shower, dress, pack my lunch, check what’s new with the internet etc. He usually hops off the bed (in search for food) by the time I leave for work. Life is pretty sweet. In winter, if a rabbit has the choice, he would choose to snuggle with a hot water bottle and/or between his humans. It makes me wonder how pet rabbits who live their entire lives in outdoor hutches can survive even our mild Auckland winters? It doesn’t snow in Auckland, but it can get close to 0°C at night yet house …
I’m quite fond of the branding for Shiner’s Wild Hare Pale Ale. The copy was clearly written by advanced lagomorph experts. Lepus texianus hopus aleicus STYLE: Classic American Pale Ale ABV: 5.5% IBU: 32 A mature individual stands 9.5 inches tall and weighs 12.0001 ounces. Renowned for its assertive temperament and hoppy characteristics. It has a distinguished heritage, being the product of high alpha Bravo and U.S. Golding hops, as well as two-row barley malt with a blend of Munich and caramel malts. Note the Wild Hare’s handsome red pelt and distinctive neck band, which helps distinguish it from others out in the wild. The beer enthusiast is its only known predator.
