Tofu Tuesday: Tofu and Max
Max is our fluffy and timid neighbour who spends most of his time indoors. Last weekend, he ventured out into our shared backyard and even let me close enough to pet him.

This illustration by Jose Ortiz for client Linguagraphics makes me smile. Black cats and white rabbits are both recognized for their magical properties. The black cat as a witch’s familiar and the white rabbit as the magicians sidekick. Jose’s slick portofolio has a clean, cool finish and bears the hand of a perfectionist. His work can be found on his website www.jofolio.com.
Dougal the fluffy ginger cat lives next door, but spends a lot of time in our front yard (where Tofu the bunny does not hang out). Dougal is a cowardly lion. At first, he would never let us near him but has since gotten used to us and he now permits patting. Every now and then, Dougal will come into the back yard, but he is sure to give Tofu a very wide berth. I snapped this photo of Dougal on our deck and Tofu (oblivious) on the ground below. Check out previous Tofu Tuesday posts here.
Since this post, Tofu seems to be happy and adapting to being blind on one side. He doesn’t jump up onto our bed as much as he used to and he’s easy to catch when we want to bring him inside. But he’s a happy bunny and enjoys everything he did before blindness. He still comes in on his own and finds his way easily around the house. We have noticed a cloudiness over his good eye now too. This seems to come and go and we aren’t sure if it’s going to deteriorate to blindness too. For now, Tofu can still seem to make out shapes and light enough to interact with others. Including Georgie. We suspect that Tofu can see Georgie, he’s just humouring him. See past episodes of Tofu and Georgie here and their initial post here.
For the past month or so, Georgie had been watching Tofu from through the fence, too shy to make the move. This week, Georgie, the timid cat from next door, finally came over the fence to hang out with Tofu. Georgie follows Tofu, then Tofu follows Georgie. It’s fairly even. I think they’re going to be great friends.
Tofu has a new fan. Georgie is a cat from next door and I have seen Georgie and Tofu them sniffing noses through the fence. It’s freakin’ adorable. Georgie is timid and has a moon shaped face and orange eyes. Unlike the other cats, I’ve never seen Georgie come over to our property. He seems to just want to make friends from through the fence.

We received this drawing in our letterbox today. Isn’t it precious? I love how Tofu has a round bunny tail and Molly has a long cat tail. Molly the cat is our neighbour and often comes over to play with Tofu so I suspect Sophie is the little girl next door. I’m going to pop this response in their letterbox tomorrow morning: A few photos of our muses… Tofu tutoring Molly on the chewing of branches. Molly and Tofu hanging out in our kitchen doorway.
