Monday Bunday: Goodbye to the year of the Rabbit

Gong Hei Faht Choy! It is Chinese New Year today which marks the end of the year of the rabbit. I’ve enjoyed seeing rabbits celebrated this past year and this time last year was spent in various asian countries. For me, seeing cities all jazzed up in rabbit decorations was better than Christmas. This year is the year of the Dragon. I hope you had a relaxing rabbit year, because this coming year could be engergised and dramatic. Here’s a drawing I did a few years ago called Bo Bo and the Pet Dragon. It seems relevent today. So happy Chinese New Year to all of you and if you can, check if there are any celebrations in your area. Have a good one!

Monday Bunday: Bunny iPad covers

Happy Monday everyone. I do rather like my red leather case from Yoobao and I would highly recomend it to anyone looking for leather case, but if you’re looking for something with a distinct bunny flavour, look no further. I’ve searched far and wide for your viewing pleasure with covers ranging from $18 to $500US, there is surely something here to suit any budget. Red Rabbit iPad Sleeve This sleeve by Feruto Bags is sold but you can get one made for you for around $500US. Made from grey german felt and red calf leather. Gorgeous. But at this price, you’ll probably want a cover to protect this cover. Nope. No sir, I don’t approve. I approve of this cover from one of my favourite bunny blogs: Disapproving Rabbits. You can get your own one for $50 from Zazzle.com. Bunny with cupcake This sweet iPad Case by Rupydetequila features an original illusration of bunny and cupcake by Ruth Fitta Schulz. Part with $100US and it is yours from Etsy.com. Silicone Rabbit. This stand features a cute pompom tail …

Tofu Tuesday: Tofu and Georgie

Tofu has a new fan. Georgie is a cat from next door and I have seen Georgie and Tofu them sniffing noses through the fence. It’s freakin’ adorable. Georgie is timid and has a moon shaped face and orange eyes. Unlike the other cats, I’ve never seen Georgie come over to our property. He seems to just want to make friends from through the fence.

Monday Bunday: Lucha Rabbit by Theodoru

This Lucha Rabbit 3d poster makes my heart squeak. Theodoru Illustration clearly devours and creates all things cool, funky and vinyl and more of his work can be found on his website www.theodoru.com. Working in Vienna, Austria, Teodoru takes bold, bright elements from various familiar graphics like  Mexican lucha libre. His work makes me think of a childhood cartoon on acid. Here are some more bunny inspired pieces by Theodoru. Part fish, part bunny.

Monday Bunday: Bunny clutch bags

Warmer weather means I go out more and what better way to celebrate the warmer days and nights of spring that with a cute bunny design clutch bag? Here is a round up of some of my favourites from around the interwebs. There are a lot of tacky, sparkely ones out there which I turn my nose up at. Not surprisingly, Etsy.com seems to have a ton of cute-not-tacky bunny clutch bags. Enchanted Rabbit Clutch by J Carter Handmade on Etsy. A rabbit clutch by Made By Hank on Etsy. The Garden Path Rabbit Clutch by Peep Accessories. Hot Pink Linen Bunny Clutch Purse by Eva Katharina on Etsy. Champagne Pink Clutch Purse with Cottontail Rabbit by Sir Tom on Etsy. Maroon Rabbit Print Clutch Purse by Vashte on Etsy. Silk Lined Black and White Forest Silhouette Kisslock Frame Clutch by BrianaEdelmanDesigns on Etsy.

Moon Rabbit

We’re going to Canton Cafe in Kingsland for dinner tonight with the extended family in celebration of the Moon Festival (12 September 2011). Canton Cafe is one of my all time favourite restaurants and we’re super lucky that we live within a hop and a skip. One of the icons of the Moon Festival is the Moon Rabbit. I kid you not. I didn’t make this up. It’s on Wikipedia, so it must be true. 😉 The Moon rabbit, also called the Jade Rabbit, in folklore is a rabbit that lives on themoon, based on pareidolia that identifies the markings of the moon as a rabbit. The story exists in many cultures, particularly in East Asian folklore, where it is seen pounding in a mortar and pestle. I like to think that there is a culinary rabbit on the moon working away with it’s mortar and pestle. Maybe that is where the phrase “moon dust” comes from? Cultures that have the moon rabbit are Chinese, Japanese, Buddhist, Mexican and Native American (Cree). Also from Wiki: The moon rabbit was mentioned in the conversation between Houston and the Apollo …

Monday Bunday: Rabbit Teapots

I have a thing for teapots. I love the decorative, uniqueness about them and how they actually serve a purpose. I’m not a collector though as I only have 1 teapot and it doesn’t even have a rabbit on it. If I were looking to expend my collection, I might consider these… 1. Tea for Two by Shinzi Katoh. 2. Bunny Teapot by Clay Nest Pottery. 3. Bunny Teapot by Abby Berkson Ceramics. 4. Bone China Rabbit Teapot from Have You Met Miss Jones. 5. Rabbit Teapot by Christy Crews Dunn. 5.  Ayumi Horie‘s rabbit teapots
