Tofu Tuesday: Hay

Rabbits are supposed to eat a lot of hay. It’s good for them and it keeps their weight in check. Tofu goes through phases of hay eating. Most of the time, hay is at the bottom on the list of things he wants to eat. So this is a fairly rare occurrence.

He looks particularly like a sea otter in this photo. Don’t you think?

  1. Tofu is so cute! He always looks soooooo soft!

If I were him, hay would be on the bottom of the list too. What with strawberry plants and OOOBY box scraps to be had 🙂

Sea otters are awesome! No, hay would not be at the top of my list, either. So I don’t blame ya, Tofu! I love the name, too 🙂

  3. I believe I have the pickiest rabbit that ever lived. I get all kinds of delicious, fresh, lovely fruits and veggies from the farmers’ market, but Punkin’s got a short list of the things she likes. She doesn’t even like strawberries!
She does love hay, though. Last night I put a big pile of hay in her playpen, and when I got up this morning, she’d eaten all of it. Little pig!

    • I wouldn’t worry about that Cristina. It’s like having a child that won’t eat fast food and only likes healthy vegetables. Nothing to worry about at all!

We’ve been at the cottage this weekend! We’re driving down this morning and I’m going straight to work.
Alfalfa hay is supposed to be very good for bunnies; the Dust Buster used to love it! Very cute photo of Tofu.

    • Hi Eva! The cottage for the weekend sounds so glorious. It sounds very English actually.

I’ve read about alfalfa hay for bunnies, but never seen it for sale. Where did you buy yours from? No one seems to differentiate between different types of hay here. I’m afraid that if I asked, I’d only be told that “hay is hay”.

  5. So cute. Flatpac will eat hay all day. But the fattening kind that she isn’t meant to. Fattening you ask? Yeah, I know. It’s hay!! She loves Lucerne and hates the Oaten that is imported from America. She will happily sit in her litter box when it is cleaned and just eat the straw. Funny bunnies 🙂
