There is a phrase in Cantonese that we don’t have in English, called yook-gun which literally translates to meat tight. It refers to the feeling you get when you see something so adorable or whimsical and your muscles tense up and you get super aggressive. A great example of this is in the animated movie Despicable Me when Agnes gets her unicorn toy.
It’s soooo fluffy I’m going to DIE!!!
Cat Rabbit makes me yook-gun. Cat Rabbit turns me into Agnes. I am in love with these hipster rabbits. Look at their spectacles. Look at their eye capsules. Look at their indignant little mouths. Look at their pulled up socks. Look at their collars and bow ties and scarves and capes. The detail makes me want to burst into tears. They are the best in the world and it physically breaks my heart to look at these too long.
Melbourne based textile-artist Cat-Rabbit has an amazing collection of plush personalities (not just rabbits). Please check out her website www.catrabbit.com.au for more fantastic beings. She also sells her toys on Etsy.
Yes, that was me when I first saw a picture of my dog on the shelter website. I *freaked* out and immediately tensed up. I was so afraid that someone was going to adopt him first that I was actually pissed at the “theoretical adopters” who might be at the shelter at that very moment taking him away from me ;D And I cried with happiness when we brought him home later that weekend! Those hipster rabbits are hilarious! My favorite is the bottom right.
Crying with happiness is intense. It doesn’t happen nearly enough either!
It is, and I agree 😀
this was how my cat made me feel. Im super happy there is a word for it. and that others feel the same way – whenever I would say to my flatmate that vVadimir (my cat) was sooooo cute that I just wanted to squeeze him (i never did!) she would look at me like I was crazy!
Vladimir – not vVadimir! 🙂
Well, there are a few crazies in the world. You are not alone 🙂
My wife and sister-in-law did that when we went to see a breeder’s puppies. Needless to say, any chance of haggling over the price went out the window.
It is hard to play it cool when you are yook-gun.
Kek-sei yan, ah! We love our dogs to bits, but they certainly weren’t cheap!
Lol. Spouses and pets kek-sei yun!
There are several expressions in Hungarian that there are simply no way to describe in English. It’s a shame.
What cute cat bunnies.
Can you describe them in a sentence?
When i was little i had 25 rabbits. no it isn’t hoarding, i had a huge yard and no none of them got killed by cats. i loved them all! they ran all over the yard, we used to love and sit and watch them sleep or bask in the sunlight. and they would run up to me and nuzzle me!
So funny you should pull that line. I had the remixed version as my ringtone for ages because Tyler and I thought it was hilarious. Those bunnies are so cute!!!
