Tofu Tuesday: Not a toy

not-a-toy

In the months after Easter, rescues are inundated with unwanted rabbits. Sadly, people buy rabbits for Easter and when the novelty wears off the rabbit must find a new home.

A rabbit is a 10 year investment. Yes, they can be cuddly and sweet, but they need daily attention and work. If you’re unsure, get a toy rabbit or a chocolate rabbit this Easter.

  1. Impybat says

My mom once told me that when she was a child, it was common to get chicks and ducklings, too. Wonder whatever happened to them when they grew up, if they even made it that far!

  2. I can not agree witb you more! People need to understand that any pets is a long term committment

  3. Ohhh, poor abandoned rabbits. I love the idea of one hopping around my apartment, but not sure who’d be less impressed with it – the landlord or the bunny itself…

    • There are some apartment bunnies out there. If you get a bunny that enjoys a leash, you can take them out to the park. Tofu hates a leash, but our old bunny Sharmi didn’t mind either way.

  4. I will have to start working on my Easter message. I have two stars lined up for the role. They have been bugging me for work… and blueberries.

      • Well Flatpac has lost weight with her new boo and all of the adventures they have been going on but I think 1 is acceptable. Then it is seen as a special food. Like bunny caviar šŸ˜› I think I’m a crazy bunny lady because I buy them all of the expensive stuff and I don’t actually eat any. Priorities! Haha.

        • I don’t buy much expensive stuff, but I am growing vegetables for Tofu. I guess home grown vegetables is just as crazy bunny lady as gourmet store bought šŸ˜€

  5. Well done and well-expressed. I will never understand these people who buy rabbits for Easter without any thought that it is an animal not a toy. Having a pet is a commitment. Just because it looks cute and cuddly doesn’t mean that it isn’t a responsibility!

    • I’ve noticed that there people offering kittens for foster only (not sale). I wonder if it’s because they are reluctant to sell kittens because someone who buys a kittens is less likely to keep it once it reaches adulthood. But someone who buys an adult cat is more likely to keep it?
