Tofu Tuesday: Hutch mod

tofu-hutch1

We have taken the top off Tofu’s hutch and lined the base with hay. It is easy for him to get in/out now and encourages good hay eating habits.

At first he didn’t know how to get in and out because we had removed the door. But once he realised there were no walls and got used to it, he liked it very much. He jumps in and out from every conceivable edge.

We don’t have anywhere to lock him up now. So when we want to vacuum*, Tofu gets some backyard play time.

Thank you for all the good mojo sent to Tofu since his illness last week. Yesterday we went back to the vet for a scheduled check up to make sure all the meds are on track. They have kept him overnight so that he can get another eye flush today, but we’re feeling good that the bladder sludge has been cleared. We will be picking Tofu up tonight but feeling good this time, though his treatment will not be urgent, hope it does not get pushed back another day! Worst case scenario now is that his tear duct is permanently blocked in which case he will have weepy eyes forever. On top of his cataracts, that’s no biggie.

*Tofu isn’t frightened of the vacuum, in fact he finds it fascinating. We keep him away from the vacuum cleaner to save him from nibbling the cord.

So glad to see Tofu doing well; up & about with his newly re-designed habitat!

  2. I’m so glad to hear Tofu is better, I was thinking about you all week. We found a natural supplement for Dustie on line called Pet Medicine Chest from Iowa, but sadly she is no longer in business. We feel that putting the bunny on this supplement extended her enjoyment of like about one year. Even our vet who specializes in exotics was surprised how she bounced back from near death! It’s a real shame she is no longer in business but she gives some other sites you can visit. http://www.katberard.com/res_supplements_PMC.htm

    • Thanks Eva, Tofu is on a low calcium pellet recommended by our exotics vet. We have cut back drastically, but the good thing is he seems to be loving his hay so doesn’t miss pellets so much.

      • Our vet suggested only Timothy Hay, not sure if you can get that where you are, but our baby LOVED it.

  3. Glad to hear Tofu’s on the mend. Izzy is terrified of the vacuum, and cowers in her litter box each time I bring it out.

  4. Kindred spirits! I have an adorable bunny rabbit, and also have a food blog. Tofu is gorgeous 🙂
